It doesn't really matter where or how the addiction comes about, the important thing to understand is that once someone has become addicted, it can be very difficult to get off of the drugs. It may require professional intervention. Otherwise, the symptoms of withdrawal can lead to death. In a medical facility, the person can be given medications to help relieve some of the symptoms.
