Substance Abuse and How to Cope

If you are currently struggling with addiction and you don’t know where to turn, you must know that there is help out there, and you are most definitely not alone.

The first step to any type of recovery though is admitting that you actually do have a problem.  Substance abuse can be defined as a regular use or pattern of harmful use of any type of substance for mood-altering purposes.  So you’re using it to get away from it all, so you don’t have to deal, so you don’t have to cope with everyday life.  It’s understandable to a point that life can be very tough.

The type of substances that are abused can be anything from a legal drugs, like alcohol and prescribed medications, to illegal drugs like marijuana, methamphetamines, barbiturates or heroin, just to name a few.

How you may have gotten started using could have simply been recreational fun.  But if you’re feeling like you’ve gotten out of control, and may have become addicted to a substance, then that is no longer fun, and it takes a toll on you physically, emotionally and financially.

Substance abuse also takes a toll on your loved ones.  No matter what your age or race is or whether you’re rich or poor, it doesn’t matter to the substance that you may be using.  Drugs don’t have prejudices against anyone.  You could be a very successful businessperson and still lose your home, your car and your family if you’re abusing drugs.

Once you admit that you have a problem and you are ready to seek help, there are a ton of excellent rehab facilities and there is sure to be one in your area.  You can check yourself in any time and they would be happy to get you started on your way to recovery.  As long as you’re still breathing, it’s never too late to seek help.  Seek help now.
