Danger of Club Drugs

A wave of new drugs, which are known as club drugs are becoming extremely popular among the young and adolescent population today. Most of these drugs belong to the category of designer drugs or man-made drugs, such as MDMA or Ecstasy as called on the streets.

There are also drugs that are derived from nature itself such as LSD and Psilocybin, which is a chemical that is found in several varieties of naturally grown mushrooms. The drugs that are derived from nature are called Hallucinogens. Both these types of drugs are commonly used by young people for the purpose of participating in all-night dancing parties with pounding, loud music and flashing lights for dancing vigorously until dawn. Since they are being used for clubbing purposes, these drugs are commonly referred to as club drugs.

Many parents are not informed enough about the dangers of these so called club drugs. They think that they should only educate their teenage kids about the bad effects of taking cocaine, heroin and marijuana. But club drug could be more dangerous than these drugs, as the physical effects of taking club drugs are mild in the beginning. Many teenagers also think that club drugs are harmless and fun. The most dangerous issue around club drugs is that they are created in illegal underground laboratories. Most of the time they are contaminated with life threatening additives.

MDMA or dl-3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine is commonly referred to as Ecstasy on the streets. MDMA would produce a potent feeling of well being and empathy at the first instance. This is why MDMA has become one of the most sought after drugs among the night club lovers. It would produce adverse chemical reactions in the body and increase the heart rate and blood pressure. Physical and mental exhaustion, poor concentration, irritability, depression, paranoia and forgetfulness are the long term adverse health effects of taking this drug.

LSD is prepared from Lysergic acid, which is found in a fungus that grows on grains. The effects of LSD will depend on the quantity taken by the user. Most common effects are dilated pupils, increased blood pressure & heart rate, higher body temperature, tremors and loss of appetite. Likewise, Psilocybin is derived from a variety of mushrooms grown in the wild and it too has adverse health effects if taken for longer periods of time.

At this point many start to inject it right into their veins for quicker results. Many times the desired effects turn ugly and they experience feelings of fear, are short-tempered, and edgy. Repeated use of cocaine can cause, heart attacks, respiratory failure, abdominal pain, seizures, headaches, nausea, and strokes.

Hardcore users of cocaine can develop serious health issues.
