The Dangers Of Barbiturates

Having to deal with anxiety or being unable to sleep is one of the most crippling things out there. I know, because I’'e dealt with insomnia firsthand for years now. Chances are that at some point you’re going to be given a prescription to help you out, and that the drug will probably be a barbiturate. Drugs in this family can be very helpful; but are very dangerous as well. You need to know what to look out for before taking one of these medicines, as the results of improper use can be disastrous.

If your doctor does not get your dosage right, if your body has a reaction to the drug, or if you use these drugs to the point of addiction the mental side effects will prove to be some of the worst. Barbiturates can take minor mood swings and turn them into major problems. Depression is a common side effect, as lack of sleep and anxiety puts patients at an increased risk of negative feelings. Acts of rage and violence have also been reported in alarming numbers, it seems the drugs can make a docile person go mad when used improperly.

This type of drug is often given to those with sleep disorders, but when used improperly it can actually make the original problem worse. There have been situations where patients who abused the drug have begun sleepwalking, even if they've never experienced the phenomena before. This makes them a risk to themselves and others if no one knows how to handle the situation. If the drug causes over-stimulation, then the effects of insomnia can actually be amplified instead of treated, adding feelings of grogginess on top of it all.

At their core, barbiturates can be very helpful for those facing issues with anxiety or sleep loss. The drug can only work as intended though if you work with your doctor to get the correct dosage, and then avoid abusing the drug. If you need help doing this, there are people out there that are willing to give you a hand. You only need to ask.
