Ketamine, Special K, K, and Vitamin K are all street names for Ketamine Hydrochloride which is a drug used by veterinarians as a sedative for animals, or a hospital grade anesthesia. It has a brand name of Ketaset.
When people use the drug it acts as an anesthesia. It makes the user aware of the surrounding environment, by only vaguely. The user is also detached in a comfortable way from all sensations of any bodily functions.
Ketamine has all kinds of effects on human beings, all, which one would suspect, would be derived from an anesthetic. Mild depression of respiratory function, cardiac excitement, hallucinations, confusion, depression, aggressive or violent behavior, ataxia, slurred speech, vertigo, euphoria, delayed reaction time, altered image of the body, amnesia, and coma are some of the effects of the drug.
This drug has also been noted to have been used as a date rape drug.
If the drug is taken my mouth or snorted, the effects can take between ten to twenty minutes to take effect. If the drug is injected, or taken intravenously, the effect is immediately realized. The effects of the drug will last for a little under three hours. Often this drug is combined with other drugs or liquids, so the subject is not aware many times that they have even been given this substance.
The use of this drug for recreational purposes is illegal, and it can have serious side effects. It looks like a fine white powder, and can be made into pills, or it can be dissolved into any sorts of liquids. It can be injected, snorted or swallowed. It can be combined with other substances such as tobacco or cannabis.
It is a dangerous drug because users don’t always know or keep track of dosages, and if mixed with other depressants such as alcohol or tranquilizers can slow down the central nervous system of the body and is dangerous. Higher doses consciousness and breathing is suppressed which can lead to fatality.
